Here Is How To Peform Finger Tapping

Chris ElmoreTapping is performed by hammering on a note (usually with the index or middle finger). After tapping a note, pull it off to a lower note.

There are all different kind of names for 'finger tapping' otherwise known as 'right hand tapping', 'two handed tapping' or 'fretboard tapping.'

Tapping is usually represented by a "T" in tabs.

HOW TO

Different guitar players employed different methods to perform tapping. The common methods are:

Method 1:

Use your middle finger to do the tapping. This lets you continue to hold your pick with your thumb and index finger. Doing it this way helps you move from picking to tapping smoothly.

Method 2:

Tap with your index finger and hold your pick with your middle finger and thumb. This still allows you to pick and gives you the power of your index finger when hammering on the fretboard. You can also hold on to the neck of the guitar with your 3rd and 4th fingers for more support.

Method 3:

This is quite similar to method 2. You still tap with your index finger but hold the pick with your middle finger only. A little tricky at first, but Van Halen uses this methods a lot in his playing. You can also hold on to the neck of the guitar with you 3rd and 4th fingers as well as your thumb for more support.
