Strumming
patterns may alternate or vary through the entirety of one song.
Some
examples of primary strumming patterns in songs are:
Single
Down Strum Elvis - "Burning Love"
Down
- Up Strum Billy
Ray Cyrus - "Achy Breaky Heart" Kathy Mattea's - "What Could
Have Been"
This
is a cool strumming pattern for the genre of funk for intermediate players...
This
pattern gets us really playing funky while applying the slide technique to a higher
chord voicing.
After
playing the first chord in typical funk fashion - using the half step approach
- you're going to use the slide technique with the higher voicing.
I
would practice just this higher voicing first and work on the slide. Keep your
fingers relaxed but locked together so that they are touching as much as possible.
This
will allow your slide to be more accurate and your fingers won't go where THEY
want to go!
Once
this is sounding good, practice the whole pattern slowly. Use our friend the metronome
and you'll be in good shape.
